A hymn about Grace in humble things — “In quiet parks at break of day” (CM)

In quiet parks at break of day

1.
In quiet parks at break of day,
Your footsteps go before;
You bless the paths we daily tread,
The commonplace made more.

2.
In sparrow-flight and drifting leaves,
In laughter on the green,
You show us grace in humble things
Where You have always been.

3.
In benches worn by waiting hearts,
In puddles after rain,
You sit with those who long for peace
And share their hidden pain.

4.
In every kindly passing word,
In neighbours met by chance,
You teach our weary souls to see
Your kingdom’s slow advance.

5.
So open wide our wandering eyes
To glimpse You where You stand—
In all the life that fills this place,
Held gently in Your hand.

Reflection

We find God in the ‘Sacramental Ordinary’—the quiet park, the rain puddle, and the neighbour’s greeting. It is a reminder that the Kingdom of God is a slow, quiet advance in the middle of our everyday lives.
