Eighty. Honour. Joy.

On Saturday we celebrated my mother’s 80th birthday—a milestone full of stories, laughter, and a few happy tears. I had written a hymn for her, and despite battling a stubborn cough that made speaking a challenge, I managed to read it aloud for her and for everyone gathered.

It wasn’t easy, but it was worth every breath. The hymn was received with such warmth that I’m still feeling the glow of it.

My cousin Marianne captured the moment on video, and I’m sharing it here with her kind permission. It’s a lovely reminder of a simple offering made with love.

My next task is to prepare a nicely typeset version for my mother to keep — something she can treasure. That part, at least, I can manage without coughing.
