This September, Ecumenical Bible Week 2025 invites us to journey from Nazareth to Nicaea, marking the 1,700th anniversary of the historic Council of Nicaea (325 CE)—the birthplace of the Nicene Creed. Through a week of reflection, prayer, and dialogue, Christians from across denominations will explore the deep connection between Scripture and this foundational statement of faith.

📅 Event Highlights

🕊️ Opening Prayer – 7 September, 7pm
Begin the week with the beautiful Holden Evening Prayer by Marty Haugen at St Finian’s Church, Adelaide Road, Dublin.

💬 Thinking Allowed – 10 September, 7:30pm
At the Church of the Sacred Heart, Donnybrook, six speakers from diverse Christian traditions will share five-minute personal reflections on the Nicene Creed, followed by open discussion.
Speakers include:

• Revd Alan Boal (Presbyterian Church)

📖 Saturday Seminar – 13 September, 10:30am–2pm

Held at St Brigid’s Church, Stillorgan, this seminar dives into the biblical and theological roots of the Council of Nicaea and its response to the Arian controversy.
Presenters:

• Sean Goan (Biblical scholar & retreat leader)
• Fr Kieran O’Mahony OSA (Order of St Augustine)
• Julie McKinley (CEO, National Bible Society of Ireland)

🎶 Closing Choral Evensong – 14 September, 3:30pm

Wrap up the week with a moving Choral Evensong in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.
