While others boast they're back to time,
As summer fades from view,
We leave our Irish Standard Time
For winter's hour anew.
The evening light withdraws its hand,
The day resigns its claim;
The clocks step back, the darkness comes,
Yet all is not the same.
For summer was our standard time,
Though few remark it so;
And now we trade that brighter hour
For winter's steadier glow.
So mark the turning of the year,
The season's ancient rhyme;
We bid farewell to summer's rule
And welcome winter time.
