Along the Barrow’s mist‑soft bends,
Where dawn lights rush and reed,
Your manna falls in quiet grace
To meet your people’s need.

And in the dew of Kildare fields
Your Eucharist is shown;
A goldcrest, bright as blessèd bread,
Sings Presence in the sown.

You led our kin through famine’s night
And through the bogland’s mire;
You guide us still with hidden flame
And cloud of holy fire.

For Christ our Life, our Bread, our Strength,
Stands with us in the pain;
His Body feeds the labouring heart
Across the midland plain.

And when the vineyard‑Master calls
At noon or failing light,
His mercy grants the labour’s wage
By love, not human right.

So may the goldcrest’s Euch’rist‑glow
Teach us your generous ways;
Till all who walk our river’s banks
Find hope in heaven’s praise.

Then lead us forth from feast to field,
Your Presence in our hand;
For manna still on meadow falls
Across this Irish land.

Praise to the Father, Source of light,
Whose grace through oak‑hills flows;
Praise Christ, the Fire at centre‑heart,
And Spirit‑wind that blows.

Reflection

The goldcrest returns here as a Eucharistic sign: small, bright, easily missed, yet carrying the mystery of Presence. In field, bread, mist and meadow, Christ is quietly given to us again—grace appearing in the ordinary, and feeding us for the road ahead.
