Mercy, not triumph

What small grace have you noticed today?

Last night, for the first time in a long while, I didn’t reach for painkillers.

No dramatic healing. No miracle cure. Just a gentle shift—a night passed in peace, or something close to it. I noticed it this morning with quiet surprise. The absence of pain, like a guest who slipped away without saying goodbye.

I expect it’ll be back. That’s the rhythm of things. But grace doesn’t need permanence to be real. It just needs to be noticed.

So today I’m choosing to name it. To give thanks. To mark the mercy of a body that let me rest.

For those who live with pain, you’ll understand: this isn’t triumph. It’s grace. And grace deserves noticing.

Thank you, God, for one quiet night.
